How to Fix Dry, Chapped Lips

If you suffer from dry, chapped lips, it can be a real bummer when you want to wear lipstick without looking… well, – scabby. There, I said it! No one wants to kiss lips that might give them road rash, so this article will help you kick those crusties to the curb and get your mack back on track!

First, let’s identify some factors that can have a drying effect on lips:

  • Cold weather.

  • Licking your lips too often which removes natural oils and irritates your skin.

  • Eating salty and acidic foods.

  • Sun damage.

  • Not drinking enough water/dehydration.

These are just a few things that can contribute to dry, chapped lips. With a few adjustments, you can eliminate elemental wear and tear on your lips.

Let’s get started healing those lips and start a regime to protect that pout in the future!

1.) Use a lip exfoliator to remove any flakes and stimulate blood-flow to the top layer of your skin. My favourite lip exfoliators contain sugar and natural oils such as the amazing Ultra Sexy Scrub that tastes like coconut and has natural moisturizers jojoba oil and avocado. We love that this product is vegan and is also available in a Green Tea Matcha Flavor!

Another awesome lip scrub is Sweetest Kisses Sugar Shack Lip Scrub The ingredients are all organic and vegan and include moisturizing shea butter, coconut oil, jojoba, plus more.

2.) After exfoliating, condition your lips with a moisturizing balm. I love Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm because it has shea butter and vitamin E oil, and the best part is that it contains SPF 25 sunscreen- which is next on our list of pucker protecting products!
Another top choice is Burt’s Bees Natural Tinted Lip Balm, or any of the Burt’s Bees balms, which have ingredients like coconut oil, beeswax, shea butter and lanolin, and come in a wide variety of scents and tints (or untinted if you prefer.)

3.)Use an SPF balm or lotion on your lips during the day to protect against sun damage. There’s no time like the present to prevent wrinkling and aging due to the sun’s UV rays. Softlips Fusions Protectant Sunscreen has yummy flavors and is an SPF 20 balm you can keep in your bag. A good tip is to reapply your SPF throughout the day, as the balm can wear off as you eat, drink, and talk.

4.)Choose lipsticks that condition as well as color. My actual favourite lip color product of all time is Nyx Matte Cream Lip Color because it applies like a gloss, but the texture is absolutely creamy and the pigmentation is very rich. A really cool thing about this product is that it tends to stay put for a long time without being drying like some all-day lip products.
Clinique Intense Moisturizing Lipstick is another great lipstick that has great moisturization and great color and staying power.

There you have it! The key to smooth, healthy lips. Drink plenty of water, use a good SPF, and nourish that pie hole with lip products containing Vitamin E, shea butter, and natural oils. Hopefully after reading this blog your smacker gets a lot more action.
